A conversational health and wellness coaching app built on React Native, guiding users through daily chatbot-driven check-ins across six dimensions: Rest, Drink, Breathe, Move, Eat, and Mind. Eduardo led the full technical scope — architecture, app development, backend, and release management — and devised a custom tag system within the BotXO dialog layer that allowed content editors to control app logic without writing code. Reached #6 in the App Store Health category with no marketing budget; adopted by Deloitte company-wide.
OVERVIEW _
The aio app is built around a simple daily habit: a short conversation. A chatbot guides users through questions and prompts across six health dimensions, tracking their progress and adapting over time. The conversational interface needed to be warm, flexible, and manageable by non-technical content editors — which meant the underlying architecture had to separate content from code more completely than most.
Eduardo led the technical architecture and delivery from the ground up. He chose BotXO over Dialogflow as the conversation authoring platform specifically for its content editor experience, then devised a custom tag system embedded within the dialog layer — a set of `%aiotag%` markers that trigger Firebase functions, pull content from DatoCMS, assign scoring points, save values to user profiles, and control conversation flow, all without requiring code changes. In practice, this meant content editors had full control over app behaviour from within the dialog editor itself.
The rules engine — built on Firebase Functions — determines which assignment or follow-up a user receives based on their scores and progress across the six dimensions. DatoCMS acts as the source of truth not just for content, but for app logic: tips, media embeds, and branching behaviour are all managed there. The architecture is serverless and was designed to scale from proof of concept to production without a platform change.
The results were notable for an app with no marketing spend: #6 in the App Store Health category, a 76% first-open-to-sign-up conversion rate (112% above the category average), and adoption by Deloitte as a company-wide employee wellbeing tool.
